The 1st of April, better known as April Fool’s Day, is the one day of the year where you can taunt the gullible and trick your mates without getting into trouble for it! Whether it’s your friends, family or co-workers that are the butt of your joke, we’ve got some mission impossible style tips that’ll help it run smoothly.

The Prank

Choosing what prank you want to pull is probably the most difficult part of April Fool’s Day. If you’re doing it on a work-mate, make sure it’s something that won’t get you fired. And likewise if you’re doing it on your husband / wife, make sure it’s something that won’t get you divorced! The main thing to consider when choosing a prank is its feasibility. You don’t want to do something that will take weeks to set up. Keep it short, simple, to the point and, most of all, funny!

Preparation is the key to any well laid plan and this goes for pranks too. Plan out what hoax you want to play, see how long it will take to set up and who you want to do it on. Find out where the ‘prankee’ will be on the day and plan around this – timing is everything! This means that when April 1st comes around, you’ll be ready!

Try to get a couple more people involved in the prank to make it that bit easier to pull off. Get your accomplices to distract the person you’re playing the joke on while you get everything ready and set up. This way, there’s less of a chance that you’ll be caught red-handed!

You should now be ready to pull your prank on April 1st and, if you follow the steps above, everything should run smoothly.

Avoiding A Prank

If you’re wary of any other jokesters in your office or home then the above steps can also come in handy if you’re trying to avoid being the one that’s tricked!

Be prepared when April 1st comes around – check before you sit on a seat, be observant and have some common sense! Accomplices can work in your favour here too, get a friend you trust to watch out for you and vice versa and you may be able to evade being an April Fool!

Is it true that an April Fools prank has to be performed before midday on 1st April otherwise the prank is on them? Not that there’s a law against it or anything…

Yeah I heard that ‘rule’ too, but apparently it’s only practiced in certain parts of the world. But again, there’s no law against having a little joke after midday! :)
