Long tumbling locks have been a feature of the Red Carpet this season but this is one do that’s not just for dressing up. Curls are the perfect addition to an outfit whether you’re walking down the high street, lying on a beach or strutting your stuff on the dance floor.

So if you want to treat your tresses to a little twist then follow our step by step guide.

Just washed hair will make for smoother looking curls so give it a good lather, it doesn’t matter what shampoo you use but only use a small bit of conditioner – If the hair is too soft, the curls won’t hold in place. Once you’ve done this, dry thoroughly with a hairdryer and mist with some heat protection spray.

To make it easier on yourself, split your hair up into approx. 3 sections (more if you have thicker hair). To do this, place your thumbs above your ears and run horizontally around the back of your head until they meet. This will form one section. Repeat this to create more sections.

Curl Up

Now you’re ready to curl! Start with one of your sections and place the hair straightener to the root. Rotate it 180 degrees and slowly move it down the length of hair. Once you’ve reached the tip of the hair release the straightener, run your hand down the section and voila, you have your first curl!

Repeat this step until you’ve got all the curls you want.

Finishing Touches

To give your curls a smoother, more natural look – run your fingers through them to separate and spritz with a small bit of serum or hairspray to give a sleeker appearance.
