Choosing a Hotel for your Holiday

You know where you want to go. You’ve decided what time of year to take your holiday. Now you need to choose a hotel that will provide you with the features you need to make your vacation a success. It’s time to do some research!

Finding the Right Hotel

  • Use the internet and local directories to compile a list of hotels in the area you intend to visit.
  • Find reviews of these hotels. Reviews by people who have actually stayed in them can sometimes be more valuable than the blurb put out buy the establishments themselves.
  • Do you know anyone who has vacationed in the area? What recommendations do they have?
  • Visit the websites of the hotels. It’s here that you’ll find detailed information about their prices and the facilities they offer, and you may also be able to view photos of their rooms and grounds.
  • Decide what style of accommodation you’d prefer. Do you like large glitzy chain hotels with their extensive amenities, or would something smaller and quieter – a boutique inn, perhaps – better suit the holiday you have planned?
  • Think about placement in relation to any attractions or points of interest you intend to visit. A hotel close to town will save on time and taxi fares and provide a convenient spot to rest between sightseeing and shopping excursions.
  • Make a list of “must haves”. Do you need wireless internet connectivity in your room? Is a swimming pool high on your list? Will you need a crèche or a business centre? Do you want to luxuriate in a hot water spa? Workout in a gym? A hotel is more than a place to sleep and the facilities offered can add that extra dimension to your vacation.
  • And of course, you’ll need to consider price. There are a number of ways you can reduce the cost of your holiday or get more for your money. Look for hotels that offer discounts for booking over the internet, consider staying during an off-peak period, ask about car hire – can you get this as part of your accommodation deal? Consult a travel agent – they may be able to offer package deals with discounted rates.

Considering the points above will help you make an informed decision when choosing a hotel for your holiday. The few hours it might take you in front of the computer will pay off handsomely when it comes time to pack your bags and escape the office for that well-earned break.
